"Like finding our one great, consuming love in this lifetime or amassing vast wealth of impressive magnitude, the Presidency, like many say, is destiny."

Writer Krizette Laureta Chu on Thursday spoke about the concept of destiny, saying the Philippine presidency was Rodrigo Duterte's.

Chu said that one cannot be trained nor groomed for the position, citing Mar Roxas and Jejomar Binay who planned for years  to attain the position but failed.

She said the unexpected happened.

The man who won instead is "71-year-old, highly reluctant, tough-talking man from the country’s most neglected archipelago" who shaped national character.

The writer said that for 16 million people, Duterte is the right man at the right time, while for some he is an "evil incarnate who has arrived in a tempest and a violent flurry, upending the foundations and beliefs we’ve long held sacred"

Chu said that Duterte is an enigma, just like most men.

She said that whether the Filipinos like it or not, change is coming and it is evident in the 2017 budget which "put the Filipino in the center".

"This is change and it has come. Destiny has willed it so.And whoever fights Destiny is always punished brutally." she said.
